MTV Movie & TV Awards යනුවෙන් හැඳින්වෙන එම උළෙල සංවිධානය කරන්නේ MTV මාධ්‍ය ජාලය හරහායි. වාර්ෂිකව සිනමාශාලා සඳහා නිකුත් වූ සහ රූපවාහිනියේ විකාශනය වූ වාණිජ ධාරාවේ චිත්‍රපට/රූපවාහිනී කතාමාලා උදෙසා සම්මාන පිරිනැමෙන මෙම උළෙල පළමු වරට පැවැත්වුනේ 1992 වසරේදීයි.
මුලදී එය MTV Movie Awards ලෙස හැඳින්වුනු අතර සම්මාන ප්‍රදානය සිදු කළෙත් චිත්‍රපට සඳහා පමණයි. නමුත් 2017 වසරේ සිට උළෙලේ නාමය වෙනස් කරමින් චිත්‍රපට සහ රූපවාහිනී කතාමාලා වෙනුවෙනුත් සම්මාන පිදීමට MTV අධ්‍යක්ෂක මණ්ඩලය තීරණය කර තිබෙනවා.
